The Singles: 1969-1973 was the first Carpenters compilation. It was also one of The Carpenters' most successful albums and compilations. The Singles: 1969-1973 was a compilation of all of their twelve singles released during the span of 1969 to 1973. Many of the songs were remixed especially for the album, including the whole A-side, and "Yesterday Once More".

[edit] Remix overview
[edit] We've Only Just Begun
"We've Only Just Begun" was remixed so that it began similar to "(They Long to Be) Close to You", but had an orchestral medley connecting "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun".
[edit] Top of the World
"Top of the World" was re-arranged and fully re-recorded in 1973 for the release of its single, as well as for the release of this compilation. On the quadraphonic disc of The Singles: 1969-1973, "Top of the World" is a hybrid between the A Song for You and the regular The Singles: 1969-1973. The vocals on the quadraphonic version are purely A Song for You, but the rest of the music in the background is predominantly The Singles: 1969-1973, with little hints of A Song for You.
[edit] Ticket to Ride
"Ticket to Ride" was re-recorded in 1973 with a new piano track, new vocals, and added guitars.[1]
[edit] Superstar/Rainy Days and Mondays/Goodbye to Love
"Superstar", "Rainy Days and Mondays", and "Goodbye to Love" were all mixed into a continuous song on The Singles: 1969-1973. The strings at the end of "Superstar" faded nicely into "Rainy Days and Mondays". While Karen sings "me down" at the end of "Rainy Days and Mondays", a very nice orchestral bridge fades into "Goodbye to Love". These three songs were sped up to match the key of the next song.
[edit] Yesterday Once More
Although the CD remix is that of the 1991 remix of "Yesterday Once More", the vinyl LP remix was a remastered version of the "Now & Then" version with some modifications, most notably the omitting of the motorcycle at the end of the album version.
