Karen Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983) was the lead singer for The Carpenters. With her brother, Richard, The Carpenters created numerous hits worldwide. In addition to being a talented singer, Carpenter also played drums for The Carpenters until 1974. Carpenter passed away on February 4, 1983 from a heart attack induced from prolonged anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
