I arranged it ["Ticket to Ride"] for the two of us, and the resulting recording became our debut single. Released in October of 1969, it remains one of my favorite Carpenters' recordings.[1]

"Ticket to Ride" is a song written by John Lennon & Paul McCartney of The Beatles. Their version was released in 1965 on the album Help!. The Carpenters covered the song in 1969 for their debut album of the same name. The Carpenters' version only peaked at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Song History[]
Richard heard the Beatles' number one recording of "Ticket to Ride" one day in 1969 and decided it would make a good ballad. The duo's melancholy interpretation of the song was "perfect" as it coincided with the breakup of the "Fab Four"[2], and it brought to light the song's somber meaning.
In 1973, "Ticket to Ride" was re-recorded for their first compilation The Singles: 1969-1973.
